Johannesburg, RSA, September 01, 2015 --- After 3 successful
mixtapes, over 10 000 downloads; 2 music videos; and a successful nationwide
tour, Mawat is finally gearing up to release his debut album to be titled
#Blessed. Umsindisi is the first single from this forthcoming album and
features the legendary, multi-award winning S’fiso Ncwane. The collaboration is
a first in South Africa, where a traditional gospel artist meets a Hip-Hop/Rap.
The song is laid-back, mature and spirit filled staying true to traditional
gospel elements while employing urban instrumentation, and street vocal
deliveries. The end result is a rare
contemporal African dish, attractive to both the young and old.
A growing brand, Mawat is the winner of the BEST GOSPEL
RAP Award in the prestigious SABC Crown Gospel Awards (SCGA) in 2014. He
also has the BEST GOSPEL RAP Award from the 2011 SCGA in his cabinet which he
won as part of the Urban Gospel crew Fifty-50
Family. To add to his achievements, Mawat has recently won the BEST GOSPEL
RAP Award in the Independent Gospel Music
Awards popularly known as the INGOMA Awards.
Mawat’s counterpart on the Umsindisi single, Sfiso
Ncwane, is a giant in the African Gospel industry. During the 19th
leg of the South African Music Awards
(SAMA19), Sfiso Ncwane took home the RECORD OF THE YEAR award, which was voted
for by the public. He has also been voted by the public as the Drum Magazine MOST IDOLIZED MUSICIAN. In
Sfiso’s cabinet is a Metro FM BEST
URBAN GOSPEL Award; SAMA BEST
TRADITIONA FAITH Award; Mzansi Gospel
BEST MALE ARTIST Award and AGMA (London) BEST
GOSPEL ARTIST IN SOUTHERN AFRICA Award. Looking at both these artist’s track
records, it is easy to see why this collaboration is already being tagged as
the “Colabo of the Decade”.
